Seven Lifestyle Strategies That Support Healthy Skin at Every Age

Seven Lifestyle Strategies That Support Healthy Skin at Every Age

You know that the better care you take of your body, the better it will age through the years. That’s particularly true of your largest organ: your skin. When you implement lifestyle strategies to protect and nourish it, your skin returns the favor, looking its best over time.

We can help. At our LUX Dermatology offices throughout California and Nevada, our team offers a range of targeted skin health solutions, from annual skin cancer screenings to personalized skin revitalization. We can help you care for your skin while implementing lifestyle changes to keep it healthy at every age.

To get started, here are seven things we recommend:

#1: Wear sunscreen every day

One thing ages your skin ultra-quickly: exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. In fact, UV light also heightens your risk for skin cancer.

To keep your skin healthy, apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 every morning. Don’t forget to reapply, especially if you’re outside for long periods of time.

#2: Get checked annually

To keep your skin healthy, it’s important to periodically check it for cancer. Fortunately, at all of our offices, our team can perform a quick, comfortable once-a-year check to ensure you don’t have any potentially problematic skin cell growth.

#3: Stop smoking

Smoking speeds up your skin’s aging processes. If you want to maintain youthful, healthy-looking skin throughout your life, this is a habit you have to kick.

#4: Keep it moisturized

Your skin relies on its moisture barrier to protect itself from the elements. That means dry skin leaves your body’s biggest organ exposed. Get in the habit of regularly applying a quality moisturizer.

#5: Be gentle

It can be tempting to want to really scrub your skin or use high-potency products on it, but be careful. Irritating your skin makes it age faster.

It’s best to take a gentle approach. And if you want recommendations as far as the best products to use, talk with our team.

#6: Eat healthy foods

A balanced, nutritious diet does wonders for your skin. Try to steer clear of overly processed foods and instead choose whole foods, like vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and green tea.

#7: Get professional support

You don’t have to figure out how to keep your skin healthy on your own. Here at LUX Dermatology, our team specializes in skin health. We can assess your unique skin and tailor a program to give it what it needs through the years.
